Set off on foot across immersive delta lands with experienced guides and animal trackers. Lace-up for an adventure like no other and be sure to bring a camera, as you don’t want to miss the opportunity to photograph the expanse of exotic, meandering animals, practically close enough to rub elbows with the wild beasts that roam the lands of the Okavango. An area is chosen at the guide’s discretion. The distance and area for each walk may differ seasonally at the behest of your guide.

The Private Kwara reserve is home to over 450 different species of bird, many of which you will find yourself familiar as your experienced guide, knowledgeable in all aspects of local wildlife will call their name and point them out for you to take a more intimate view.

Binoculars are a must as you peer out amongst flocks of malachite kingfisher and African jacana, with potential to spot some of the rarer species such as black chested snake eagle, wattled crane and rosy throated long claw. Optimum time for birdwatching is during the wet season, from November to April, when summer migrants swoop inland to mate.

Fishing is offered at Kwara Camp for 10 months of the year but is prohibited in January and February as this is peak breeding season. Basic equipment is supplied, though avid fly-fishers are advised to bring their own equipment. Please note, catch and release fishing only.

Kwando Safaris supports the Lady Khama Charitable Trust (LKCT), an initiative that serves to support several charitable causes throughout the country. Named after Lady Ruth Khama, the wife of the first President Sir Seretse Khama and mother of present President Lt. General Seretse Khama Ian Khama, she was considered by many as the mother of the nation and was well-known for her support of many charitable causes.

Kwando Safaris operates a ‘matching’ scheme for the benefit of the Trust and its associated charitable beneficiaries, promising to match the donation of any guest who wishes to financially contribute to this benevolent cause that serves to improve the lives of countless people facing unfortunate circumstances throughout Botswana.

The ’Mummy’s Angels’ project began operation in 2018 at the behest of three local women from Maun. Having witnessed the plight of mothers with new-born children lacking in financial and family support, they decided to offer assistance in the form of providing donated clothes and garments for young children.

The Mummy’s Angels programme has since supplied vast quantities of clothes for mothers in need to provide for their children, with Kwando Safaris promising to match every article of clothing donated with a similar donation. Kwando Safaris invites guests to bring some of the requested items along with them as they come on safari, incentivising brighter prospects for all mothers of new-born children and providing support for women who need it most.

Kwando Safaris aims to contribute its resources in the most efficient means possible when giving back to the community and the various projects that ensue. Botswana’s 50th Anniversary of Independence in 2016 was a great cause for celebration throughout the country and served as an appropriate means to contribute to many local communities within the reach of Kwando Safaris. This was achieved by donating a variety of essential, highly sought-after household supplies that many rural communities often struggle to attain.

Kwando Safari staff came together for a weekend, pooling many hours and resources in order to distribute buckets (a more useful household item than a basket for example) to the more rural outskirts of Maun. Such initiatives serve to provide rural communities with some of the essential necessities to facilitate the needs of everyday life, such as having an appropriate means to collect water from village wells. Kwando Safaris intends to continue this practice and will do it once at the beginning of the year and again around the anniversary period.

Through using above ground, state-of-the-art sewage treatment plants, Splash avoids cross contamination of the soils or ground water through discharge of grey or black water. The fully treated product is eventually returned to the ground.
