Desert Homestead Lodge

The guest houses are designed in the style of a thatched horse farm and creates a cosy setting for guests to unwind in. Panoramic views are available and each room has a shaded sun deck for guests to observe the stunning location that the property rests within. Each room has twin beds and air-conditioning provided by solar energy. Private en-suites with a shower are also provided as are amenities such as free Wi-Fi, phone service and an in room safe. Complimentary bathroom amenities are also provided at no extra cost and for those travelling with children, there is a family lodge available.

Breakfast is available at the lodge at no extra cost and there is also a restaurant and bar on site that serves fine meals and wine to guests. Reviews of the food from guests who have visited the property have nothing but praise for the lodge. One review even states ‘the food at the lodge was great with a lot of personal touch and attention. When the chef stopped by our table on the first night to inquire about the food, he asked us what would we like for the second night. My mom jokingly said, “Let’s do BBQ”. Lo and behold, the second night the BBQ grill was smoking hot, and we had a wonderful meal.’

There also various routes that lead through the World Heritage Site of the Namib Sand Sea and the natural rock castles in the Erongo Mountains. This will give you an incredible insight into the culture of the region.

There are scenic signed jogging trails in the Namib at Desert Homestead Lodge. Given the location, the routes are filled with an incredible array of flora and fauna to admire. It is also the perfect place to jog whilst on holiday here due to the fresh air . Given that the property is an eco-lodge that is focused on environment preservation, the lack of pollution makes it ideal for an early morning or evening jog.

Sundown drives are the perfect way to end a day in Namibia when staying at Desert Homestead Lodge. A safari into the sunset will take guests through the bush with an experienced guide whose knowledge of the region, its flora and fauna will be a highly valued accompaniment to the stunning views. The journey will be taken in a stylish open jeep, making it even easier to witness the picturesque landscape in comfort whilst being fully immersed within nature.

A unique experience that is an absolute must at Desert Homestead Lodge. Guests can ride out onto the private reserve and sleep out in nature, under the stars. Situated between the Namib Desert and stunning Naukluft mountains, guests will leave the stables and lodge behind, setting off on an unforgettable journey through the open plains of sand and mountains. An experienced guide will be present to lead you on your trip, teaching you about the environment, flora and fauna. You might even come across zebras, foxes and a variety of smaller carnivores.

This journey is for experienced hikers, bookable for those who are spending a combination of nights at both Desert Homestead Lodge and Desert Homestead Outpost. The hike begins after an early-bird-breakfast and begins by crossing the local landmark mountain. After following a canyon to the mountain saddle, upon getting there you’ll be able to witness the sunrise. The trail then follows a dry river course and hikers may even spot the wild creatures that roam below; zebras, cheetahs and maybe even leopards.

This guided tour lasts for a duration of six hours and starts in the morning for an early-bird-breakfast at the lodge. Guests will travel the safari in 4X4 off-road vehicles that are designed for the difficult sand passages that you will encounter in the national park. Guests will arrive at Sossusvlei before sunrise and guides will teach you about the desert and its many inhabitants.

A balloon ride over the Namib starts in the early morning as the sun spectacularly rises over the horizon, taking guests to witness the red sand dunes and rugged mountains that stretch as far as the eye can see. It’s an unforgettable experience that gives visitors the chance to truly appreciate this protected reserve.
