Tsara Komba Lodge

The Ocean View Lodge provides an excellent abode nestled away between the beach and luscious forest. You are granted a beautiful view of the ocean, with a spacious, luxurious and rustic room to stay in. The lodge provides a delightful and romantic escape, allowing you to drift away on your comforting silk linen bed surrounded by the sweeping ocean views. The 6 90m² lodges are all perched along the hillside overlooking the beach. Private terraces are provided, so you can always step outside and bask in the warm rays of sunlight. The tranquil environment is perfect for peace and relaxation.

The 120m² lodges offer a similar experience but scales upwards. Split into two differing variations, the first is the lodge that sits by the waterfront, and the second overlooks the beach and the bay. The suites are cosy sanctuaries that offer all the peace you need, and both 90m² suites and 120m² suites come complete with their own ensuite bathroom and private verandahs with sunbeds, perfect for those afternoon siestas.

Food at Tsara Komba Lodge is one of the standout features for this establishment. Guests can choose to eat out on the beach for a candlelit dinner, or you can go to the Lovers Deck, an intimate overlook where dinner is laid out before you against a beautiful, starlit ocean backdrop. If you desire, you can also take a picnic out on the beach, with the chefs delicious prepared meals oozing with excellence.

You can choose the location of your picnic, and you need not limit it to just the beachside of the main facility. Surrounding you are plenty of small island paradises that you can set out by boat to, the choice is yours for the picking of what beautiful white beach or patch of breezy green land you choose to eat on.

Chef Tina Hary provides an expressive assortment of delicious cuisine, prepared with passion and professionalism. An immense concoction of seafood is provided, ranging from crabs, prawns, lobsters, swordfish, shellfish, tuna, mahi-mahi and much more. Alongside this, there is also a solid backing of fresh vegetables picked straight from the garden.

The Eden Garden offers a beautiful pathway through canopies and densely packed bundles of plant-life. Located on the lodge premises, this stunning assortment provides you with a blissful retreat into a curated assortment of nature. Crossing through the Indigenous Nature Reserve, vegetables and other ingredients are also grown in the garden to help prepare delicious meals.

The sights, aromas and sounds of this stunning garden all merge into a melting pot of exotic bliss. The scent of coffee, ylang-ylang, frangipanis, pepper, cocoa beans, vetiver, lemongrass and the west moisture of the air itself hangs around you. The flamboyant colours of leaves and flowers will surround you as you make your way down the trail and into the garden’s heart.

The incredible location enables guests to find all kinds of exciting adventures to partake in. Snorkelling is a popular past-time around the shallow reef areas surrounding the lodge. This can be combined with setting out on a boat cruise, to reach the further regions of the sea to dive in. Touring of the surrounding sea can also be done via dugout canoe, a traditional form of water transport for the Malagasy people. Via the canoes, you can head up to the village of Amparogina where you can witness firsthand the local industry and commerce such as fishing, embroidery and woodcarving.

You can head to Nosy Ambariofasy, a small island with inviting translucent water perfect for snorkelling to observe the region’s esteemed aquatic biodiversity. The beach area offers plenty of spots to partake in a bit of ball sport, such as beach volleyball, racquetball, badminton, as well as perhaps even some frisbee or kiting. The pleasant lulling tides and beautiful pale white beach is also the perfect spot for taking it easy and enjoying a beach day.

The Lokobe Strict Reserve is a fascinating place if guests wish to observe some of the Madagascan wildlife up close in an ecologically preserved area. The archipelago’s last primaeval park, this ancient land is home to several natural medicinal plants, as well as the natural habitat of the nation’s iconic marsupial, the lemur. The black lemur can be found traipsing through the treetops of Lokobe, alongside more than 350 other animal species. Other species include the beautiful panther chameleon, and the adorable mouse lemur.

When designing their lodge, Tsara Komba approaches everything with a mindset of ethical consumption and sustainability. Solar energy is used in the lodge instead of traditional electricity. As a result, there are no telephones or televisions in the lodge.

All fish caught are done so in a sustainable manner, with 100% of the fish being line-caught by local fishermen in dugout sailing canoes. Trade with local producers such as farmers, fishermen and suppliers is fair and helps to benefit local labour and craftsmen. Additionally, almost all of those employed at Tsara Komba Lodge are local inhabitants of the neighbouring village.

Tsara Komba provides high quality training and healthcare provision to their team and has created their own specialised health fund in addition to numerous social welfare measures.

Strict compliance with environmental and recycling procedures is a precedent set at Tsara Komba. Water at the lodge is harnessed from a nearby spring, with biodegradable detergents used and guests advised to use water sparingly. Waste water is subject to natural filtration and then used for irrigation in the gardens which is also nourished by local compost. Glass bottles are reused by local rum producers.

90% of the materials used in construction are ecological and locally grown from local wood and plant variants. Stones, granite and slate is also used as well as leaves for the building’s roof.
