Dine at the Bambu Kitchen to experience local cuisine prepared with great care that have been made using recipes that have crossed generations and embody the nature we reside in. The Bambu Kitchen follows the Slow Food Bali’s guidelines by sustainably managing waste, paying fair wages to staff, and they use 75% Indonesia produced products.

Riverside Warung is an open-air cafe with 8 tables and built as a traditional Balinese style kitchen. Serving daily specials, the cafe is made from treated bamboo slices, bent into overlapping arches and these support a curved roof as the designer said “I wanted it to appear as though it was constructed by a highly intelligent bird”. The food served here has been grown and crafted by locals using natural ingredients for guests to enjoy delicious native cuisine.

Guests can explore the Kul Kul Farm in Bali, a permaculture farm that is passionate about growing healthy and wholesome food. Learn new skills and become educated with knowledge about permaculture design, bamboo building, gardening and earth friendly living which you will learn about in short workshops and courses.

Explore the Green Village, a short scenic walk away from the Green School. Discover the bamboo villas and houses that are built towards a sustainable future for you, your lifestyle, your business and your family. Take part in a tour at the Green Village to see how bamboo is transformed into a sustainable living experience and walk through the bamboo forests and permaculture garden.

On this tour you will have the chance to explore the open-air design centre and workshop where you will be able to witness the master artisans at work. You will have the opportunity to experience John Hardy’s eight step process which involves using techniques passed down through generations and you will also experience a traditional Balinese lunch as you dine alongside the John Hardy team at the long table.

Throughout the many years that the resort has been developing and the family has been growing, a number of businesses and initiatives have been founded; some of these companies that the resort works with are: Green School, Green Camp, Green Village, IBUKU, The Kul Kul Farm, Green By John, BAMBOO U, Elppin and Matriarchy Now!

Bambu Indah Ubud aim to preserve the environment through a responsible lifestyle within the resort whilst still achieving modern comforts and customised services. The resort has undertaken a number of different ways to protect the environment as much as they can through sustainable design, having a natural pool and pond on site, filtering the water, taking part in a linen and towel reuse programme, offering organic bath products, air conditioners and fans, recycling as much waste as possible, reducing light pollution whilst saving energy, insect control, and making the resort a smoke-free environment.

The resort grows its own food from the land the resort lies on which goes directly to tables. An incentive programme has been put into place which the resort works on by buying the produce from the gardeners working at the resort: this is so that in turn, the gardeners earn more than salary based on crop yields. The garden beds grow all types of vegetables and delicious greens which can sometimes inspire the guests as some have said that they have planted tomatoes in their own gardens just as the resort does.

The owners of the resort, John and Cynthia, founded the globally renowned Green School in 2008 where they proceeded to build a bamboo campus combining “cutting-edge technology with traditional materials and building methods”. This created an inspirational teaching and learning environment for the local community to provide them with the best education that they could provide.
