Bambu Resort

A charming boutique hotel, fully outfitted with well-appointed traditionally inspired 16 guest rooms feature modern amenities of air conditioning, safety deposit box, flat screen TV, telephone and a mini bar.

The 4 suite rooms (32 sq m including bathroom) are on the first floor of the main building and all have antique Khmer king size beds. Each room also has a large balcony (12.5 sq m) with table, chairs and removable hammocks.

The three garden houses are named after local sights of interest – Banan, Sampov and Ek Phnom and the six deluxe superior rooms (27 sq m including bathroom) are on the first floor of these houses. Four rooms have antique Khmer king or Queen size beds and two of the rooms have twin beds (2m x 1m).Each room has a private balcony (7.5 sq m) with table and chairs.

The deluxe standard rooms (27 sq m including bathroom) are on the ground floor of the garden houses. Again 4 rooms have antique Khmer King or Queen sized beds and 2 rooms have twin (2m x 1m) beds. Each room has a private terrace and garden area with table and chairs.

The Russey Restaurant Battambang, meaning bamboo in Cambodian, boasts a fully equipped kitchen and serves the best and freshest food in Battambang. Russey is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner from 6am to 10pm with a range of snacks, mains and desserts from the best of local and international cuisine.

The restaurant and bar are open to everyone regardless of whether they are staying guests. Food and drink can be enjoyed in the elegant dining room or more informally on the terrace or at the bar.

The fully stocked bar has draught and bottled beers, a comprehensive wine list, a selection of local fruit juices and shakes, a range of cocktails, teas, coffees and other soft drinks. Drinks are available at the bar, in the restaurant, around the pool or in your room.

Cambodians love markets and Battambang is home to many. Every day the chefs make a trip to the marketplace in Battambang to buy the freshest ingredients. They will be happy to share their culinary knowledge with you and guests are welcome to accompany them on their daily visits to the local market.

Not included in the resorts package, The Battambang Museum is small but well worth a visit ($1) for it’s limited but attractive collection of sculpted lintels from the Angkor era and other artefacts from all over the province. Next to the museum is an exhibition area that often houses interesting displays featuring local agricultural and fishing practices, legends and folk tales.

Not included in the resorts package, Called “norry” by the locals, the bamboo train is a unique and creative form of transport. It consists of a small motorcycle engine-powered bamboo platform that rides on the railway tracks picking up and dropping off passengers, cargo, animals and motorcycles along the way.

Not included in the resorts package, Battambang is home to many wats (temples) all of which make interesting places to visit. Wat Tahm Rai saw (White elephant temple) is one of the most visited because of its elaborate structure but also worth a visit are Wat Gahndahl and Wat Samrong Knong.

Not included in the resorts package, Battambang is home to Phare Ponleu Selpak, a well known NGO which gives youths from deprived backgrounds the opportunity to channel their energies into learning circus skills such as juggling, clowning and acrobatics. Well worth a visit, other activities also include traditional schooling, drawing, music, dressmaking and a community leisure centre.

Bambu Battambang Hotel, Restaurant and Bar was built with sustainability in mind. In the construction they used only local labour and wherever possible local materials – for instance all:

• floor tiles
• roof tiles
• joinery and
• most of the furniture – were made in Battambang.

Similarly all the trees, shrubs and flowers in the gardens were sourced locally.

All the staff are hired locally and they support the local community including a number of local school and charity projects.

The hotel uses solar power for much of their energy requirement, and have opted for a salt water pool, which is both better for guests, but also free from damaging chemical agents, lessening the impact on the environment.
