Casuarina Beach is about an hour’s drive from Jetwing Jaffna and can be made by bus or private transport. The beach is known for its wide expanse and shallow waters, inviting locals and holidaymakers alike. The characteristic trees that give the beach its name create a small coastal forest and offer shade from the sun. The Karainagar Lighthouse is also located at the eastern tip of the beach giving the shoreline a picturesque look.

Built by the Portuguese in the 17th century, the Jaffna Fort is one of Sri Lanka’s last well-preserved colonial ramparts. The Jaffna Fort is located a short walk from Jetwing Jaffna and stands proud over the bordering lagoon. The fort is a particularly lovely vision at sunset when the pinkish-orange skies back it on the horizon and the cool ocean breeze drifts through it. This is a must-visit place for any history lover.

Jaffna Market welcomes you into a colourful world filled with exotic souvenirs. As well as shops filled with bright clothing and ornaments, the market also features an open-air section with fruits, vegetables and other food produce. The vibrant market is best visited in the morning and is just around the corner from Jetwing Jaffna. Take a stroll through the market and find some souvenirs to take home with you.

Located a thirty minute drive away from Jetwing Jaffna, the Kadurugoda Temple and Ruins are located on the outskirts of the city in Kantarodai. Once documented to have nearly 60 gray coral-stone stupas, there are now only 20 remaining sprawled across less and an acre of land. They are one of the few remaining Buddhist legacies in the northern province.

Jetwing Hotels run youth development programmes often training them for 6 months in the skills needed for working in hospitality. They work with schools, hosting special workshops focusing on environment and biodiversity. Jetwing try to source locally, working with local farmers and fishermen for produce and they hire locals into their employ, taking people from all backgrounds and walks of life.

Jetwing remains committed to producing what they can in-house across all their hotels and villas. A series of on-site water bottling plants are used to reduce waste from single-use plastic bottles. The bottles are made of 30% recycled glass and are used, cleaned and circulated back around.

Jetwing purchases products and produce from locals whenever possible. Buying fish from local fishermen, hiring local musicians and chefs, and fruit and vegetables from local markets are steps Jetwing takes to source locally and sustainably.

Jetwing has improved their energy efficiency and reduced their fossil fuel usage through the use of biofuels and solar panels. Cinnamon wood is used because of its fast cropping cycle and flat solar panels and perfect for use in tropical countries like Sri Lanka.

All organic waste is used in the onsite biogas digesters, composted, or used as animal feed. Bulk purchasing is used to reduce the amount of unnecessary packaging and paper, plastic, metal, and glass are all sorted for third party recycling. Wastewater is treated and used on site for things such as irrigation purposes and cistern flushing.

Jetwing helps raise awareness on the importance of biodiversity and protecting the environment in their staff, guests, and local communities. In the areas around their hotels and villas, Jetwing have established numerous reserves or habitats, such as a nature reserve and a wetland.
