Mara Bush Camp

There are 10 Guest Tents available. Each tent is furnished with a four-poster bed, but double beds and single beds are available on request. All beds are provided with mosquito nets for safety and comfort. Each tent includes an en suite with a flushing toilet and shower, complimentary toiletries, a safe, a writing desk, and a large outside deck for spectacular private views.

There are 2 Family Tents at Mara Bush Camp for those visiting with children. They are both furnished with a four-poster bed, but double beds and single beds are available on request. Like the Guest Tents, the Family Tents are provided with an en suite with a flushing toilet and shower, complimentary toiletries, a safe, a writing desk, and a large outside deck for spectacular private views.

All meals are provided for guests at Mara Bush Camp. Enjoy buffet breakfasts and lunches under the shade of fig trees, and menu-ordered dinners under the stars, surrounded by nature and cool river breeze. Guests are welcome to take packed picnics along with them on safari drives. There’s even the chance for a romantic dinner for 2 away from the main tent with a private waiter and luxury 4-course meal. The chefs serve a fantastic selection of organic cuisine and can cater to any dietary requirements.

Take a tour through the wilderness with one of the camp’s professional safari guides and meet the local wildlife up close.

Fancy stretching your legs? The Walking Team at Mara Bush Camp are there to show you the wonders of east African safari beyond the reserve. You’ll have the chance to learn about local flora and fauna, identify different animal tracks and have a great chat with your guide. Bush walks are available in the mornings and afternoons and usually last for 2-3 hours, but can be shortened to your liking.

Take to the skies and experience the scenic landscapes and wildlife of East Africa like never before. As early as 5am, guests can be picked up by the balloon crew and taken on a 1 hour tour with an expert pilot. Upon landing a champagne breakfast will be ready and waiting for a perfect finishing touch.

Ol Malaika is a home for young Maasai girls who have escaped from dangerous and traumatic situations. The home provides a safe and supportive environment for these girls so they can still have the bright futures they deserve. You’ll be able to visit Ol Malaika and meet the girls for yourself. This is a unique chance to hear their stories and learn about the “Maasai Way of Life”, as well as traditional songs and dances.

The Mara Bush Camp is an amazing location for photography. Not only are there spectacular and authentic views, but there is also a photographer’s lounge. There’s plenty of space to share pictures and to charge up photography equipment, and a projector and screen can be used for workshops.

Solar energy provides the majority of power for Mara Bush Camp, with a backup generator in case of emergency. All lightbulbs are LED’s and all batteries are solar powered.

Mara Bush Camp has its very own well that supplies its water and uses the top of the range Art Water Filtration System that can filter up to 100 litres of water every minute and provide clean and safe drinking water to all guests and staff. All showers and toilets have been designed to reduce water waste. There are 5 wetlands that filter water from the camp and allow some to be reused for car-washing and laundry. The organic vegetable garden is watered with collected rain water.

The Community Wildlife Fund was founded in 2020 as a result of Covid-19. Mara Bush Camp works with CWF to support local communities surrounding the nearby reserves and parks. They worked to supply over 3500 families with food donations to prevent the possibility of increased poaching and activity in the bushmeat trade. CWF also launched an education projects for children and young people to help them understand the value of the wildlife around them so that they can continue to protect and enrich it.

The Maasai community is indigenous to the Mara area and 60% of staff at Mara Bush Camp are from the Maasai community. The camp is dedicated to giving members of this community and others employment opportunities and part of the camp’s revenue is given to the community each month. The camp’s gift shop also sells a variety of lovely items that are locally produced, such as jewellery, pencils, and figurines – 20% of this revenue is donated to the Daphne Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

Mara Bush Camp is committed to responsible and sustainable waste disposal. All bins are labelled to help manage to correct division of waste. Bio waste is deposited in a special bio pit. Compost is used to nourish the homegrown vegetable garden. Other waste produced at the camp is taken to Nairobi and disposed of by Taka Taka Solutions, the only company in Nairobi that responsibly sorts its waste.

In 2019, Mara Bush Camp won Eco-Warrior award for the reduction and elimination of single-use plastics. They have come up with several initiatives and alternatives to using plastic, including:

• Stainless steel thermos bottles
• Replacing plastic containers (eg yoghurts, butter, honey, juice packets, water bottles) with glass
• Replacing cling film with beeswax covers and net covers, made locally
• No straw policy
• Refillable containers (eg shampoo, hand wash, body lotion)

Mara Bush Camp uses Grounded detergent, which is ‘a non-toxic detergent made of natural, bio-degradable ingredients’.
