Olarro Lodge

The Luxury Lodges at Olarro Lodge are spaced out around the main lodge to give guests privacy. Four of the lodges feature twin rooms, and the other four feature doubles. Each of the bedrooms leads to its own en-suite bathroom which includes either a rainfall shower or relaxing bathtub. The beds are plush and comfortable, fitted with pure cotton linen, and the spacious rooms also have a lounge area, yoga and gym equipment and a hairdryer. Grab a drink from the minibar and sit out on your private verandah which overlooks the stunning Loita Plains. An extra bed can be provided for adults staying with 1 child.

All meals at Olarro Lodge are freshly prepared by the lodge’s chefs. The ingredients are locally sourced, with fresh vegetables that were grown in the lodge’s garden. Guests can enjoy three delicious meals each day from either the sunny Upper Deck with panoramic views of the savannah, or a more intimate dinner out on the verandah. Enjoy sun-downers from the lodge’s bar and sit back in the comfy lounge area, swapping stories with your fellow guests.

Travel across the plains in a specially-designed safari vehicle, and explore the Olarro Conservancy – 20,000-acres of private wilderness which is only accessible to Olarro guests. The lodge’s expert guides will be able to teach you interesting facts about the wildlife and landscape, while you look out for wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, elephant, vervet monkeys, and lions. Drives can be entirely tailored towards what interests you, making the most of your safari experience.

Night Drives are also available, allowing guests to see the nocturnal species that stay hidden throughout the day. This includes adorable bushbabies, leopards, aardwolves, and owls. Night Drives are a more immersive experience as the senses are heightened, and every sound is more impactful. Search for creatures in the dark and explore under the starry sky.

Speed across the plains on a quad bike, and immerse yourself into the vast landscape of the Olarro Conservancy. Look for the grazing game and prowling predators as you race through the wilderness and enjoy the stunning views of the horizon. This activity is only available to guests aged 16 and older.

Visit one of the local villages or school and meet the communities who live in rural Africa. Learn about the Maasai area, as well as local traditions and culture. Discover what it is like to live in such an incredible place and take a class with the local children.

Journey into the Maasai Mara for a full day of safari activities. The Mara Game Reserve offers a range of rare animal sightings such as the big five, elusive pangolins and olive baboons. The reserve is also close to the Mara River, offering an abundance of birdlife sightings as well as hippos and aquatic species.

Get a bird’s eye view of the Maasai Mara on a unique hot air balloon ride over the sweeping plains. Take in the vast landscape from a different perspective and see giants such as elephants and giraffes from above. Guests are advised to pre-book this amazing activity.

The Olarro Conservancy help to protect a number of wildlife species by working with the Kenyan Wildlife Service in order to prevent poaching. The specially trained rangers take part in threatened species surveys and protect endangered species, to help sustain the incredible wildlife of the Olarro Conservancy. Guests are invited to visit the headquarters and learn about the work that goes into maintaining a 20,000-acre reserve.

Keep younger explorers entertained with a range of fun activities offered by the lodge’s guides. Children can learn about Maasai culture, craft their own bows and arrows, and discover the art of Maasai beading. Each day offers new experiences to help children to appreciate and learn more about Maasai.

Olarro supports their local community by running a number of projects to help enrich the lives of those who live beside the areas where Olarro operate. These projects include building local schools and boreholes, helping villages protect livestock, and helping to protect local people.

‘Our involvement has provided more than 2,000 people with fresh water, preserved cattle and livelihoods from parasites and Africa’s wildlife, and powered homes with solar energy. We’ve created jobs, opened up healthcare and protected the community from wild neighbours as well as crime.’

Olarro’s specially trained rangers work with the Kenyan Wildlife Service in order to help stop poaching. This includes taking wildlife surveys to monitor the threatened animals living within the reserve, as well as working to protect these endangered species so that future generations will be able to view them in the wild too.

‘The Conservancy team play a big part in protecting many African animals. But we don’t just stop at protection. Having undertaken threatened species surveys, Olarro conservancy is also here to restore and enrich the ecosystem, with increased protection of endangered species.’

Olarro Lodge has been fitted with a combination of solar and wind energy generation systems to provide clean and renewable power for the lodge and guests. This renewable energy is then used to charge deep-cycle batteries, and water is heated by solar heaters and water pumps, in order to provide guests with all the water and power that they will need. Olarro is working to become as close to carbon-neutral as they can, with the lodge currently 99% powered by renewable energy.
