The Argyle

The 38 rooms the comprise the Argyle are made up of four designs. The first is the Wallace, named after Sir William Wallace, these eight stylish rooms are located on the lower terrace of the property, offering small private gardens perfect for a morning coffee or cocktail at sunset. The rooms feature all modern amenities, including a rain shower the possibility for in-room dining.

Paying homage to the bravery of the 6^th High Steward of Scotland Walter Stewart, these five luxury rooms are located on the upper terrace of the hotel and present a private balcony overlooking emerald vistas stretching into the horizon. Spaciously laid out and yet quietly cosy, they are ideal for honeymooners or small families. Easy access for the differently-abled is also provided.

These twenty-four elegant rooms are titled in tribute to Robert the Bruce, the famed warrior King of Scots. The dozen rooms on the upper level showcase direct views of the mystical Adam’s Peak whilst the lower dozen open out into a large enclosed garden and a heated swimming pool. Facilities for interconnecting rooms are available, as well as easy access for the differently-abled.

The height of luxury, this honeymoon suite offers multiple views of the hill country surroundings. With every modern amenity and intricately decorated features, this room is fit for a king, or indeed the peer and soldier Archibald Campbell, the 9^th Earl of Argyll, after whom the room is named.

Like the audacious and plucky Mary Queen of Scots, the restaurant offers a curated international culinary experience. A truly cosmopolitan offering to suit the most discerning palates, from local favourites to delicacies from across the world, the Queen Mary’s Dining Room is a royal dining experience. All produce is sourced locally and meals can be ordered any time and even delivered to guests’ rooms.

Immerse in a truly quintessential Scottish experience at our Bar & Lounge. Adorned with quaint furniture draped in traditional tartans, you can nestle under a blanket in front of the warm fireplace, as the embers burn bright into the dawn. Partake in a game of billiards as you indulge in a generous range of wines and spirits, or indulge in one of the adventurous cocktails on offer.

St. Clair’s Falls, commonly known as the “Little Niagara of Sri Lanka”, is one of the most eye-catching waterfalls in the island and is easily visible by travellers on the Hatton – Talawakelle Road. Surrounded by tall mountains and beautiful tea gardens, the waterfall cascades over three rocky outcrops into a large pool. Although the waterfall is situated about half a kilometre away from the main road, it can be reached by walking down through tea bushes at a steep gradient. A specially-constructed viewing gallery on the road allows visitors to get an extended look at this iconic waterfall of Sri Lanka.

Situated around 1,200m above sea level, the Bluefield Tea Gardens is in the town of Ramboda set amidst misty mountains and emerald-hued tea gardens. Visitors can enjoy a tea factory tour, purchase the finest Ceylon Tea from the Tea Center, enjoy breakfast and lunch at the restaurant and walk through the lush tea estates while breathing in the exhilarating mountain air.

Make use of the transport on offer at the Argyle and head up to the small town of Kitugala where you can get your adrenaline pumping in the Kelani River – where ‘Bridge over the River Kwai’ was filmed! With lunch provided, adventure out into the beautiful Sri Lankan countryside and immerse yourself in the beautiful waters.

The Argyle have taken advantage of the fact they are the only small-scale hotel in the area, and have made the effort to ensure the local community benefits, as well as guests. All staff are hired from the surrounding area, boosting the local economy and meaning that the hotel is connected to its location and not working in isolation. In addition to this, all produce comes from local markets and farmers from the hill country. This means not only are all ingredients fresh and full of flavour, but each meal supports the livelihoods of those living in the very mountains so quintessential to The Argyle.

The team at The Argyle pride themselves on their eco-friendly practices. Because it is such a small hotel, they are able to balance luxurious experience with a very small environmental impact. Additionally, because of its small size and due to all staff being from the surrounding community, passion for the beautiful green life in which the hotel is nestled is in abundance. By carrying out waste management, energy conservation and many more policies, they are able to care for the local environment and ensure the health of the surrounding ecosystem.
