Some of the most prominent sightings in Yala are of leopards, elephants, sloth bears, sambar, spotted deer, jackals, wild boar and buffaloes, langur and macaque monkeys. Yala is also famous for its bird life. There are around 130 species of birds that have been spotted at the premises including black necked stork, sandpipers, pelicans, egrets, hoopoes, parakeets and bulbuls. Rekhawa Turtle Hatchery
Rekawa Turtle watch, situated on beachfront just a few kilometres east of the town of Tangalle. The best time to see turtles is between January & April; periods when there’s a full moon. A part full moon is good too throughout the year, because there are both more turtles & more light to see them by. Rekawa has recorded 23 turtles in one night.
Early morning, go on a whale watching ocean safari with packed breakfast. Return to the resort and spend the day at leisure.
Whale Watching Ocean Safari
Just off the coast of Sri Lanka, swims the majestic blue whale, the largest creature on earth. Nowhere in the world is it possible to see these ocean giants so close to shore than in Weligama. Ocean Safaris presents the opportunity to see blue whales along with sperm whales, false orcas, playful spinner and bottlenose dolphins and turtles in their natural environment
Ocean Safaris offer exclusive private boats, giving you the opportunity to enjoy your trip in comfort and away from the hustle and bustle of the overcrowded public boats. The boats are fast and can take you to the shipping lanes (where the whales and dolphins are) in about half an hour. Along the way you’ll see other marine life; sea turtles, flying fish, pods of spinner dolphins and much more.
